Jim enjoyed membership in some of the local Orange County wine and food societies. Their introduction to the Napa Valley came about as a result of one of these club associations. “Our first trip was in 1974,” Jim comments. “We joined a tour called ‘Springtime in the Vineyard. Our destination was Schramsberg, and we were most graciously hosted by Jack and Jamie Davies." That was the day they fell in love with this beautiful area and the winery dream came back to life.

In 1979 the winery was bonded and the first crush was inside an old carriage house built in 1865. The first releases were Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and a little bit of Zinfandel. The Prager Noble Companion Cabernet port was also introduced with a total production of about 120 cases.
